Dear IGSMA District
9 Colleagues,
I hope you had a wonderful summer and are enjoying being back at school.
While this is a busy time, please read this letter in
its entirety so you are well informed about this year’s IGSMA events.
This letter will also be on the IGSMA website soon, should you need to
refer to it later. Please
share this information with other colleagues in your district so we’re
sure to reach everyone.
New Procedure
I want to try something new that is of major importance. I’d
like to ask each school planning to participate in S&E and/or Organization
to have one director contact me via email or phone by Friday, September 12 and
tell me the contests in which you plan to participate and who the participating
directors are. Knowing the number of
schools participating sooner will help us better estimate site and judge needs.
This should lead to better organization and stronger
judges because we often need to hire judges late to cover unexpected
events.
Fall Meeting
The annual IGSMA District 9 Fall meeting is on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH
at 7:00 p.m. in the band room of

. A huge thank you goes to Kim
Johnston who is again willing to host. We
will have complimentary pizza and salad beginning at 6:15 p.m. Please send me an email if you will be attending so I have
enough food. I hope all of you will be able to attend this
meeting to discuss important District and State issues, as well as spend
some time socializing with your fellow IGSMA District 9 members! If you
have ideas that will help improve our events, this meeting is your best forum to help us improve.
Anyone with agenda suggestions should email those to me by Monday, so
I can send the final agenda prior to the meeting.
Registration Reminders - Please
read this carefully. There is always some confusion between STATE vs.
DISTRICT fees!
1. Be sure each
director who will be participating fills out a state membership form. Membership is required in order
to receive mailings and participate in contests. The director’s fee is 20.00 this year and must be paid
by each director who plans
on participating in IGSMA. You should have already received this form
from the state office. You may also download the forms off of the IGSMA
website: http://www.igsma.org/Pages/IGSMA.htm
2. Please send your state
registration form and fees to Ed Jones by September 22nd.
If your state membership is not received by the state deadline, your
students may not be allowed to participate. The
state meeting is on Monday, September 22nd at 10:00
a.m. at Maria’s Restaurant in Morris. Directions are in the
state mailing.

Please remember that many of your questions during the year can be answered by
visiting the IGSMA web page. The Constitution and By Laws, Percussion
Requirements, Membership Info/FORMS, and Executive Board contacts are
there. Please refer to this website before you ask your question to
save everyone time.
