NORTHERN DIVISION, DISTRICT 3

FALL MEETING: 
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8,
2008

 

1)      The following members were present:

2)      The minutes of the April 14, 2008  meeting were read, and approved without discussion.

3)      The Financial Report was read, discussed and approved.

4)      Old Business

a)      Organization Festival

No changes were made from the April 14th meeting.  It was decided to adopt these rules into the bylaws and evaluate the festival at the Spring 2009 meeting

5)      New Business

a)      Contest Entry Fees

i)        The Chairman shared a cost analysis of the Solo & Ensemble and Organization contest events.  It was decided by the membership present to adjust the fee structure.  New fees are as follows:

(1)   Solos - $8.00

(2)   Duets & Trios - $4.00 per member

(3)   Quartets through Octets - $3.00 per member

(4)   Nonets and above - $2.00 per member

b)      Organization Festival Fees

After reviewing the costs involved for the Organization Festival, it was decided to set the fee at $80.00 per group.

c)      District Meeting Dates

Spring Meeting will be held on Monday, May 4, 2009 in Bloomington-Normal

d)      District Contest Dates and Hosts

i)        Solo & Ensemble Contest will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Parkside JHS in Normal .  Host is Kimberly Martin-Boyd

ii)      Organization Festival will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2009 at Bloomington JHS in Bloomington .  Host is Michael Wallace.

iii)    Currently there is no host or date for Organization Contest.  Any group that wants to go to State Contest must enter this festival and it must be held before March 20, 2009.  Please contact the District Chairman if you

e)      State Hosts

The Chairman encouraged any individuals interested in hosting a state contest to contact him.  If someone hosts from our area, there may be more interest in State Contest.

f)       Membership    

The Chairman encouraged the directors who were present to talk to other non-member directors and encourage them to look into IGSMA.

6)      State Meeting

a)      The Chairman reminded everyone about the upcoming Fall meeting at Maria’s Restaurant in Morris and encouraged everyone to attend. 

b)      There were no resolutions passed to be brought to the Fall Executive Board Meeting.  There was discussion regarding the measure requirement and possibly making it a measure number or time requirement similar to IHSA’s rule.  In addition, there was discussion about the use of electronic instruments (specifically electronic keyboard) as a substitute for bass/tuba parts.

7)      Benita Lewis motioned to adjourn the meeting and Michael Wallace seconded.
